Every horse deserves an active, happy life

The Mission

Thoroughbred Broodmare's mission is to facilitate finding non-racing homes for mares that have come to the end of their breeding careers in the thoroughbred industry by connecting buyers and sellers.

The Method

We accept advertisements from private individuals,  free of charge, for any Jockey Club registered broodmares that need placement in non-racing homes, regardless of breeding soundness, rideability, training level, or age.  TB Broodmares does not charge a fee to either the buyer or the seller.

Do you have a success story about an older mare you transitioned into a new career?  Please let us know!

Mare Listings

There is a wide variety of mares across the country of all ages and training listed in our ads, but I hope that our visitors will give special consideration to the aged mares advertised here. These older gals can become wonderful riding or companion horses and have much left to give!

News:

July:

My Baby Girl has just been listed in the Midwest.  This nicely bred 1996 Kentucky broodmare is available after winning 90K on the track!  Take a look.

June:

CANTER West Virginia has a herd dispersal going on with some very nice mares listed.

A nice pair of mares just listed in the Western region, and one in the East.

Just returned from the Rolex Three Day Event in Lexington, Kentucky.  It was a wonderful time, and I was excited to see so many rehoming organizations represented there, such as New Vocations and the Throughbred Adoption Network.  I also stopped by Old Friends, the living racing museum/retirement home for Thoroughbred stallions and other racehorses in Georgetown, Kentucky.  They are also doing wonderful things, and have a mare herd of their own.

The other encouraging fact I discovered at Rolex is the Thoroughbred is back for upper level eventing, after a trend toward competing warmbloods.  There was at least one OTTB gelding competing at the 4* level.

Even better, a good number of hard knocking mares were well represented!  The ladies were showing what they could do!

April:

Dustee Bottle was sold through the site!

A number of nice new mares have been added to the Midwest listings.

March 30:

Congratulations to three more mares that have gcone on to good homes.

March 15 -- Congratulations to Run the Red, who found a new home through this site!

March 8 -- new listing, Gaelic Vixen in the Western region, a mare with a wonderful sporthorse pedigree in foal to Sagar, perlino WB stallion.

I have new listings for a number of nice mares in Virginia that need new homes, owner is going out of business.

In our Western listings, two mares have sabino characteristics!  Color breeders, go take a look.

Recently, I have had some questions about what sort of mares can be listed.  Despite the website name, I welcome any thoroughbred mares regardless of potential ability.  If your mare can only be a companion, that's fine, or if she should go to a show home, that's fine too!  Why take any ad? Because the more people that visit the site, the better the chances that the aged mares will get a look and get placed.

Lots more listings, so I have divided the ads into regions.  Shippers go everywhere, though, so don't be deterred by distance.

The first mare has been sold!  Congratulations June on the sale of Foxy Sombrero!

TBBroodmares was featured on Fugly Horse of the Day on February 10! Thank you.

We have a baby Facebook page!  Help me make it grow.  Look under Thoroughbred Broodmares.

Thoroughbred Broodmares cannot guarantee the condition or suitability for a particular purpose of any mare listed here.  The photographs and descriptions are provided by the sellers and we do not verfiy them.   We encourage buyers to have a veterinary examination of any horse under consideration.

Technical Difficulties...it seems that the site email is disappearing into the black hole of cyberspace.  Please direct your emails to equestrielle@yahoo.com.  Thank you!
